Mar. 5 Comics Preview: Forever Evil continues (forever), Magneto begins and Gothtopia ends

Detective Comics #29

It’s a big week for badasses as Batman wrecks a drug-induced Utopia, the Crime Syndicate goes nuts over Nightwing and Magneto gets his own series.

Poor Dick Grayson.

He’s starting to feel like Jesse from Breaking Bad: he’s the hard-luck sorta-sidekick who just gets screwed over, over and over again.

And in this issue, he’s again at the center of all things. The twisted love triangle between Ultraman, Owlman and the pregnant Superwoman is going to come to a head soon – and there’s no doubt Nightwing will be a part of that, too – but even more exciting is the final reveal of the Crime Syndicate’s mysterious prisoner.

So, so good.

This has been a first class event from DC. When a Forever Evil comes out, you’d better read it.

Written by Geoff Johns with art by David Finch.

You had to know he was up to something.

But did you think it’d be his own comic title?

Never one to play second fiddle, Magneto is stepping up this month with his own comic title from the creative team of Cullen Bunn Gabriel Hernandez Walta. He certainly couldn’t play henchman to Cyclops in Uncanny X-Men for very long. But what does the future hold for mutantkind’s most radical crusader?

Better check it out.

Detective Comics #29

I fell off John Layman’s Detective Comics about a year ago, but this crossover event has been worth coming back for. If you’re like me and you love alternate universe ‘what if?’ stories, the conclusion to John Layman and artist Jason Fabok’s Gothtopia story arc is sure to deliver as Batman unravels the mass delusion plaguing his city.
